RiNano – Innovative surface protection

Following nature's example (lotus effect)

In Asia, the lotus plant is seen as a religious symbol of purity, because it repels liquids and prevents dust from adhering to the surface. This is likewise thanks to nanoparticles: Minute papillae repel water. In nanotechnology, this produces a self-cleaning ceramic surface. Materials coated with nanoparticles have special properties: For example, to produce scratch-proof spectacle lenses, nanoparticles are applied to the surface. Lenses coated in this way will not scratch even if they are cleaned with steel wool. The tiny particles are so small that they do not refract or deflect light, but allow it to pass through unhindered.

How does it work?

The nano-seals are comprised of nanoparticles with components which adhere firmly to the surface and created the desired effect with other components. These particles intelligently align themselves during application: The connecting components migrate to the surface, while the anti-adhesion components align themselves with the air. This "self-organisation" leads to the creation of an ultra-thin, glass-like coating which forms a homogenous connection with the surface, thereby ensuring extreme durability, and also protecting the surface against aggressive environmental influences. This type of nano-spray finishing is also used on Rittal enclosure cooling units (condenser surface).

Nanotechnology – The vision becomes a product

Nanotechnology is now being used as standard in enclosure climate control units. The condenser of TopTherm cooling units is finished with a nano coating, comprised of nano-particles of ceramic, which give the condenser a dirt-repelling layer. This serves to permanently seal the pores, so that foreign bodies are unable to adhere to the surface, and the surface properties are preserved. In "dirty" environments, these coatings help to significantly lengthen maintenance intervals.

Nanotechnology in spray-finishing pretreatment

As one of the world's leading enclosure manufacturers, Rittal now uses a spray-finishing pre-treatment which guarantees optimum performance in every detail: Nanotechnology. This innovative pretreatment using nanotechnology offers a host of highly visible benefits:

Superior quality

More eco-friendly
Longer service life
The nanoceramic coating of our product surfaces replaces conventional iron phosphating.
As a genuine innovation in surface technology, this pretreatment is perfect for use on steel, zinc and aluminium surfaces. It allows the coating to be applied extremely uniformly, with significantly improved corrosion protection of spray-finished surfaces.
