BIOKON

A cooperation with Freiburg University
BIOKON unites experts from the many different research fields that fall under the general heading of bionics. Our contacts with Freiburg University and BIOKON, and the resultant pool of knowledge and potential, provide the basis for our research in the field of bionics.
The Bionics Competence Network (BIOKON) was set up with the aim of establishing a comprehensive information infrastructure, and bringing Germany's leading research teams in the field of bionics together. Bionics (or biomimetrics) is concerned with the systematic transfer of design principles and problem solutions from nature into technical applications. To this end, flora, fauna, organisational principles and evolutionary processes serve as biological role models.
The network was founded in 2001, and entered its second phase in June 2004. All activities in the competence network are coordinated by the Berlin-based charitable organisation BIOKON e.V. In phase two, BIOKON was expanded from its six original founder sites to a total of 27 cooperation partners, thereby ensuring that bionics is comprehensively represented in Germany. As such, this network provides an ideal platform for technical exchange and for the mediation of "complementary partners" for R&D projects. BIOKON is also very active in educational and PR work. The numerous different specialist fields within bionics and the interdisciplinary nature of its key players help to ensure that research results are processed and transferred into concrete technical products throughout the entire value-added chain.
